Deduct Meter Installation Guidelines
To ensure a successful and compliant meter installation, please follow these guidelines carefully.
1. Location Requirements
- The deduct meter must be installed within 3 feet of the existing domestic water meter spread
2. Permitted Connections
- Only external water uses may be connected to the deduct meter. Examples Include: outdoor hose bibs (faucets) and lawn sprinkler systems.
- Internal plumbing connections are not permitted.
3. Installation Responsibilities
- Plumber will install: The Deduct Meter
4. Backflow Prevention
- If the deduct meter is connected to a lawn sprinkler system, a Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow prevention device is required.
- This device must be supplied and installed by the customer.
- All backflow devices must be tested after installation to ensure compliance.
5. Height Limit
- The deduct meter must not be installed more than 5 feet above the floor unless prior approval is granted by UMJA.
